Keyboard layouts

As most don’t know the most well known keyboard layout is the least effective: QWERTY.

The 2 lesser known layouts are Dvorak and Colemak. There are others; Neo, Workman, etc.

After a bit of research I chose to chose between the 2 other well known layouts (Dvorak, Colemak). This is because the others are not available for the Android.

Reasons for Colemak

• Keyboard shortcuts are the same as qwerty
• Not many changes between Colemak and Qwerty (This does not mean that that it is less effective, quite the opposite: Colemak and Dvorak are close to the same when looking at speed.

Reasons for Dvorak

• The dot and comma are where the Q and W are on a Qwerty keyboard which is especially handy when programming.
• Although the placement of the symbols is changed as well, one soon notices the advantages of these changes.
• There is a more noticeable difference compared to Colemak vs Qwerty.

Log

• Last summer holidays (2013) I started with Colemak. It was tedious (resetting muscle memory)
• Feb 16 Decided to switch to Dvorak.
• Switching was less hard.
• Mar 19 Switched back to Colemak. I got so used to ‘neio’ on the left hand and the fact that all shortcut keys are different! Resetting muscle memory again, again! but I’m speeding up fast :). Also as I know the placement of all the keys I can finally touch-type!!
